The Saga of the Demon 8 Comics

Also known as 'Tales of the Demon,' this set of comics introduces one of Batman's most iconic and fearful enemies: Ra's al Ghul. This list covers the definitive origin stories of Ra's al Ghul, Talia al Ghul, and the League of Assassins.

This legendary run by the duo of Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams redefined Batman for the modern age. Together, they moved Bruce Wayne away from the bright 1960s and into a global thriller of shadows and immortality. This is their first true saga, introducing the Al Ghul dynasty.

#01: Detective Comics #405: The First of the Assassins! — The mystery begins. Batman encounters the deadly League of Assassins for the first time as they target an old man with a dark secret.

#02: Detective Comics #406: Your Servant of Death — Dr. Darrk! — Batman faces the first leader of the League, Ebenezer Darrk, in a fight that leads him to a fateful encounter with a mysterious woman.

#04 Batman #232: Daughter of the Demon — First Appearance of Ra's al Ghul. The "Demon" himself enters the Batcave, revealing he knows Batman's identity and testing him in a global rescue mission.

#05 Batman #235: Swamp Sinister — The saga expands as Batman and Ra's al Ghul form an uneasy alliance to track down a chemical threat, further exploring the "Demon's" complex morality.

#06 Batman #242: Bruce Wayne — Rest in Peace! — Batman realizes Ra's is a global threat that must be stopped. He "kills" his public identity to go undercover and recruit an elite team to take down the League.

#07: Batman #243: The Lazarus Pit! — First Appearance of the Lazarus Pit. Batman tracks Ra's to his mountain fortress and discovers the secret to his immortality.

#08: Batman #244: The Demon Lives Again! — The epic finale. Batman and Ra's al Ghul face off in a shirtless sword duel in the desert. A cinematic masterpiece of comic book history.
