In December 2010, James Roberts was asked to write a new Transformers ongoing due for launch in January 2012. IDW gave him a one-line pitch to work with: “Rodimus Prime and Drift leave to find the legendary Knights of Cybertron”.
Roberts spent 2011 plotting a complex multi-year story arc – a tragic space opera sitcom about a ship full of misfits on a quest to fix themselves. He wrote all his ideas down by hand, filling dozens of notebooks.
