I've seen better from Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen. Descender and Ascender were absolutely incredible and moved in ways that were satisfying to the plot and its characters. Little Monsters feels like it's not moving much at all. It's very character focused. (Which isn't a bad thing. But it feels like the story's main drive). It takes its time showing you the set up but upon its conclusion you are left guessing what the futures are with the characters and its world. The Last issue in particular I have really big issues with its pacing and panel set up. Some of the direction and story was confusing and not entirely clear. Dustin Nguyen is my favorite artist in the industry. I feel like in this series he was poorly underutilized. He makes such grandiose water colors and this series is all black, white, and red. It looks good for the tone they are going for, but there could've been more in the comic itself. The story again wasn't terrible. Jeff Lemire wrote a decent piece here but the pacing was just so slow at times and it felt like a thousand years to move in a single direction. Overall, Little Monsters isn't a bad read. It's a good time but I've had better times with the two creators. The ending felt rushed, and I just expected better out of this team that what we received.
