Plot

In a world where the Statue of Judgment looms over the old Statue of Liberty, justice has a price: freedom. North America, slowly but surely, becomes Mega City One during the course of this love story. The reader sees the growing power of the Judges as civil rights—long ago fought for—are pushed aside for order. We follow the lives of American Jara, the daughter of immigrants searching for freedom, and Bennett Beeny, a rising comedian. We see that the transition to Mega City One is opposed by those who remember what the ideals of the United States stood for.
