En agosto de 1989 el diario La Tercera revivió la revista Topaze como un suplemento, pero que no logró el éxito de la década de 1940. Muchas de sus bromas se centraron en el presidente Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, referido como Don Lalo, Gabriel Valdés, apodado El Conde Gabriel, y otros protagonistas de la política chilena de los años 1990. Para la generación que nació durante la dictadura militar de Augusto Pinochet, fue el primer acercamiento al humor político.
