New college student Hinako, who moved to a small seaside town to surf and have fun, finds herself falling in love with firefighter Minato after he saves her from a fire. Their young romance comes to an abrupt end when Minato drowns…but in her grief, Hinako discovers that singing a song they used to perform as a duet summons Minato into the nearest body of water–be it a puddle, glass, or bathtub. Will Hinako be able to reach Minato again? Originally released as an anime movie by visionary director Masaaki Yuasa–which ran in North American theaters in early 2020–these books are the perfect companions to the film

Okay I have no idea what happened with this book. The story ends only about halfway through the book and the other half of the book is “bonus stories”.I’m going to start with the issues I have with this book. It most WAY too quickly and it hardly gives the reader time to get invested in the characters/story. The bonus stories were just character development. I don’t know why they were not added into the regular story. It would have been nice to feel more attached to the characters before it all went down hill. The art in this book was weird and I feel like pulled me out of the immersion. There were hardly any backgrounds and a few of the backgrounds were literally just photographs that had a blur and black and white filter on them. This would be a 1 star rating, but the bonus stories recovered it a little. The art was much better in those stories almost to the point where I thought it was a different author and gave the story much needed development. But I was just disappointed.
