Patrick Kyle's work is at the forefront of alternative, oddball art comics. Like a funny book fauve, Kyle's work is distinct and distinctly different from the mainstream. Familiar icons like Dracula and Archie are put through the prismatic mind of Patrick Kyle. They are turned inside out and used to great effect to skewer conventions and wrench humour out of the familiar. As a collection of short stories, Everywhere Disappeared presents Kyle's skills at their most exact and heightened. His oddball, but oddly relatable characters, inhabit worlds that are through-the-looking-glass, sixties sci-fi simulacrum versions of our reality. This removal allows Kyle's trenchant satire and surreal humour to shine in its own unique way.
