To avoid the Y2K problem, the years don’t have numbers, they have names: the year of the Rabbit, the year of the Cloud, the year of the Earth. Now is the year of Rick Rickard Jr., the gifted Nobel laureate in economics and possible Republican candidate for the U.S. presidency. But how does all this affect Juan López, an unemployed resident in Barcelona? Elegantly drawn and rendered in beautiful, rich watercolors with a pop culture aesthetic, this imaginative, absurdist narrative is told with dark humor and explores apocalyptic themes, showcasing Marcos Prior’s unique voice and singular vision as an artist.
