El ingreso de Salinas a la historieta se produce en 1936, en la revista Patoruzú. Llevó páginas de muestra a Dante Quinterno, quien le pidió una historieta de piratas, protagonizada por un muchachito; la respuesta de Salinas fue la creación de Hernán el corsario, que desarrolló hasta 1942.
