Batman: Turning Points (2001) #1

Plot

Returning from duty Jim Gordon finds a note from Barbara saying that she has left for Chicago with their son, along with divorce papers. Elsewhere, Doctor Hale Corbett, who has just lost his wife and kid in a car accident, takes an entire church hostage and Gordon is called in. When Gordon arrives at the scene he is approached by Batman, who wants his approval before going in and stopping Corbett before anyone is hurt. Having gotten permission from Gordon, Batman enters the church and knocks out Corbett. When Gordon returns home afterwards he finds Batman in his living room wanting to say that he had heard about Gordon's wife and son and that he was sorry.
