More than a century before Kinju's conviction and automated confinement, in the early days of the carceral state, the great Dr. King enjoined: 'Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppresor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.' Now Kinju must hearken to these immortal words, as her promised sancuary offers little solace.
