Plot
The fifth volume of Northlanders finds DMZ artist Riccardo Burchielli joining Brian Wood’s Viking epic.
Opening in 9th century Norway, Erik, a blacksmith, meets Ingrid, a girl enslaved by corrupt Christian missionaries. When Erik liberates Ingrid from her captors, they set out to live by the “old ways,” hoping to find something – anything – they can feel is their own. The Church will not let them go that easily, though, and sets out to bring them back by any means necessary, driving Erik to adopt a scorched earth policy their pursuers.

Un tomo que me ha dejado un poco "picueto". La primera y la tercera historias son del corte habitual y me han gustado mucho, aunque seguramente más la tercera, a pesar de un final muy amargo. Pero la segunda historia, la que da nombre al tomo, mezcla la realidad con la fantasia, lo palpable con lo onírico, de tal manera que no sé cómo interpretarla, y eso no me deja casi nunca satisfecho. La he disfrutado mucho mientras la leía, eso sí, pero el final, no sé. En cuanto a los dibujantes, tenemos a Burcchielli, que lo hace bastante bien, y luego a Fionna Staples y Becky Cloonan, aunque en ninguno de los dos casos soy capaz de reconocer los estilos que luego les darían fama.
