Plot
This 80-page giant collects three early Justice League adventures originally published in issues #1, #6, and #8.
In "The World of No Return" (from JLA #1), the Flash faces the mutant tyrant Despero, who has placed the rest of the Justice League under a hypnotic trance. To save his teammates, the Scarlet Speedster must accept a chess-like challenge rigged against... him, risking the teleportation of the entire League to another dimension. Superman and Wonder Woman find themselves stranded on a prehistoric planet, Aquaman and Green Langeon a dying water-world, while Batman, the Flash, and J'onn J'onzz are trapped on a planet whose sun is about to go nova.
In "The Wheel of Misfortune" (from JLA #6), Professor Amos Fortune discovers the twin "luck glands" in the human body and invents the Stimuluck device, which allows him to control probability. While he gifts himself with extraordinary good luck, the Justice League members suffer a chain of catastrophic misfortunes. The heroes must solve two simultaneous cases—a hidden family treasure and a museum theft—while Fortune attempts to destroy their good luck glands entirely using his Wheel of Fortune trap.
In "For Sale — The Justice League!" (from JLA #8), small-time crook Pete Ricketts obtains the Cyberniray, a device that controls the wills of others. After capturing the Justice League (with Superman and Batman away in Dimension X), he auctions off the mind-controlled heroes to the highest-bidding crime bosses. The Flash and Green Lantern are forced to battle over stolen jewels, Aquaman and Green Arrow compete to rob a gambling ship, and Wonder Woman fights J'onn J'onzz over a radium shipment. Only Snapper Carr, the League's mascot, can save them by using the anti-gravity discs from the Souvenir Room.
