Plot
Mephisto has, quite literally, offered Peter Parker a deal with the devil; Mephisto agrees to save Aunt May's life and cause the world to forget Spider-Man's secret identity if he is willing to live in a world where he and MJ never got married; With twenty-four hours to decide, Peter and Mary Jane agonize and soul search but finally decide to take the deal; To rub salt in the wound, Mephisto shows the Parkers their unborn daughter who would have been born if the two had stayed together; After a final kiss, the world goes black; Peter wakes up in his own bed in his old house with Aunt May making breakfast downstairs; He heads off to a party celebrating Harry's return from Europe and fun is had by all but things seem a little chilly between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson whose friendship has grown a little frosty; New and old friends toast a brand new day.

Being a diehard DC guy, I don’t have the deep connection and love for the Peter/MJ relationship, but this still hits. I can see why fans hated JMS for this. It even feels like Marvel knows this, and that’s why they end the book with a bunch of loved writers talking about how great he is.
