Treestump and Cutter relate the tale of Bearclaw's death.

Cutter finally tells the story of his father Bearclaw's demise to the mutant beast, Madcoil. In this Wolfrider tradition, he honours the tradition of death, that delivers the elves into an eternal kinship with the The High-Ones, the immortal Material Sons who first descended onto the world of two moons. This is also the story of how Moonblade , the sacred dagger made of Blue Mountain ore by Two-Edge, was passed from Bearclaw, blood of (the wolfriders') nine chiefs, to Cutter Kinseeker.
